For your day’s inspiration, take a few minutes to watch this short video of longtime sage grouse volunteer Ken Miracle of Boise, Idaho, who goes to Washington D.C. this September as one of the six finalists of the national Heroes of Conservation awards presented by Field & Stream.
Ken generously donates photographs to the Sage Grouse Initiative, as well as many partners. He takes people out to view sage grouse on the leks on cold wintry early spring mornings. He marks fences, sprays weeds, restores wet meadows, goes to sage grouse working group meetings, and he’s always cheerful and energetic.

Through Ken’s lens and his on-the-ground work, he helps tell the world the story of how to conserve sage grouse and hundreds of other species that share the vast range– working hand-in-hand with ranchers, agencies, and nonprofits to get the work done on the ground that makes the difference.
